Green Patriotism

With Earth Day coming many businesses are gearing up like never before for this growing event. It has become a day of showcasing a company’s environmental efforts and touting their “greenness.”

One company is setting an example in this effort. Greensleeves Garment Care, an eco-safe dry cleaner and activist in environmental causes (they maintain this blog) has two such programs.

Greensleeves announced its program of free cleaning of uniforms for active duty member of our armed services. Marines, Coast Guard, Navy and Army servicemen and women have taken advantage of this free service. Word spread quickly and officers were informing their ranks of the offer.

The uniforms are dry cleaned in an environmentally safe process, GreenEarth Cleaning. The process leaves their uniforms fresh and soft. Greensleeves also returns their uniforms on “Eco Hangers”. Made entirely of recycled paper, they replace the old wire hangers.

“It’s an honor to be able to give back something to our men and women that give so much for what we all take for granted.” says Davis, the Green Dry Cleaner, as he calls himself.

Greensleeves also eco-cleans anyone’s American Flag free of charge. “It’s the green, red, white and blue,” Davis says laughingly. “If everyone would do one little something, it doesn’t have to be giving away something for free, but simply one thing on a consistent basis, – imagine the impact!”

As local and global businesses gear up for the biggest Earth Day ever, look around and add to the effort. Hooray for the green, red, white and blue.
