New York’s Smart Move on Hydraulic Fracturing

General Add comments

Recently, the New York Senate passed an emergency moratorium on hydraulic fracturing. You can find the full story here from ProPubllica: story. This has caused an uproar of sorts instigated by the energy companies and the Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York, an industry trade group, because the measure is wide reaching and affects many methods beyond that which has caused “fire water” as we can call it, where homes had gas coming out of their faucet that could be ignited as seen on a number of videos posted as warning against this kind of careless drilling.
The point here is not the story of the moratorium and not the ecological danger this kind of drilling poses, although each would be well on point in this medium. The point here is for once the New York Senate, or for that matter, any governmental congress acted with real concern for our environment by essentially saying, hold on a minute, let’s think before we act.
Far too often any congress is given to acting in a careless manner and having to fix the damage after.
Living the Green Way says hats off to State Senator Antoine Thompson for thinking about the right things first and not creating a heritage of ecological contemp to be healed by the next generation.
It is this kind of ‘think first’ attitude we need more of – a little bit of caution when it comes to the ecology.
