Every New Year’s day we review our personal character and consider our excesses, indulgences and vices. Goals are laid before us by intentions well endowed to improve our lives as we resolve to correct in some fashion these things we are least happy with. It is a personal guide we set on self improvement.

This noble tradition lays before us a year of betterment, growth.

Earth Day could well use this tradition. Each of us should look seriously at our actions and carelessness in how we abuse the precious resources that we are fast running short of and consider ways, small and large, that we can dedicate this same spirit of betterment to.

Myself, I commit to avoid using the plastic bags stores use to put our purchases in; mostly supermarkets. I will keep with me in my car (a Hybrid Prius) re-usable canvas bags to use as replacement to the disposable plastic bags.

Each of you reading this article can help start this worthy tradition and bring it into the environmentally conscious age. Talk about making an Earth Day Resolution and get others to make one. It is only when we all work together that we have hope for this beautiful green planet we lovingly refer to as Earth – and home.
